“Reflections”
By: Kricket Caffery, 2011
Portland, OR

A trans-formative art piece that was taken to Burning Man Fire and Arts Festival in Black Rock City Nevada in 2011.
Astrologically, for me, Pluto is in transit to Mars, which represents a pretty serious self-transformation cycle that only happens every 284 years, so most of us never even experience it in our lifetimes. It appears that since a personal transformation is in the stars for me so, I have no choice but to take it on, it is time to choose what I want to make of my Self.

I have high hopes and aspirations for my Self. I desire to break the cycles of my past. My present, future, health, and love, depend on me doing so. I have to trust in myself that I have the strength, courage, and integrity to face this transformation, accept it, and know that I will be a better human because of it. I am ready, I am a survivor, I am open.

I must take in and sort out the lessons from all of these experiences.

I must set the intention for my life path.

I must let go of the emotional burdens.

I must reflect on the experiences and be willing to transform my Self.

The motivation, intention, and inspiration for this project: “Reflections”, lies in my yearning to find peace, love, forgiveness, and acceptance in my recent life experiences.

My personal world, soul, and spirit has been overwhelmed and overburdened with intense emotions from murder, suicides, diseases, criminal trials, deceit, separation, disrespect, misunderstandings, poor communication, etc.

Some are such horrible things that they are incomprehensible, yet they have happened, they are part of my experience in this world, and part of what makes me who I am, but not my fault. Now it is my choice about how I let them affect me, what energy I hold and how I move through them. As for the things that I can change, it is up to me to reflect and take responsibility so that the negative energy can be released or transformed.
Reflections debuted at Burning Man Arts Festival August 2011 in Nevada

WHAT TO DO WITH THIS ART:

As you approach the wall from an angle the words are not clear. If you change your angle, you will get better focus, we often experience these moments of clarity in our daily lives as we analyze situations, experience our lives, try something new, etc.

Get in close, step away to get perspective, look closely at the details, but don’t forget about the big picture. Use the keys, the positive character traits, to free yourself from your pain, anger, misdirection, fear, etc.

Read each word, look at yourself, and then sit with whatever comes up for you.

Do you identify with the word or not?
Does it make you think of someone else?
What emotions do you have?

Whether it makes you feel uncomfortable or not, happy, sad, angry, vulnerable, whatever, just sit with what comes up for you: face it , recognize it, take it in, reflect on it.

“Reflections” offers the opportunity to ask yourself questions like:
How do you see yourself?
How do you want to be seen?
Who do you want to be?
What do you want to do with your life?
What do you offer to the world?
How can you effect change?
What are you looking for?
How do you want to be remembered?
How do you effect the people around you?
What are your life priorities?
